Shelly is an innovation thought leader and practitioner at the intersections of research, technology, art, and community development.
I am currently the President of Third Place Technologies, a 501(c)3 non-profit focused on fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, while also working as a research consultant, creative director and artist, and Town Councilmember in Skykomish, WA.
As an artist, I am a classically trained painter who also works with interactive, experimental technologies in sculptural installations.
As a technologist, I have a PhD in Social Psychology, and in my career I specialize in community technology research and development, including social, civic, and communications media.
I have served as a leader and community organizer across many domains -- as non-profit President, Town Councilmember, creative director, event producer, research manager, and conference chair.
My current passion is all about making creative collaboration happen!
As a social scientist, my recent work has focused on examining and designing socio-technical systems that have meaningful impact on collaborative communities.
As an artist, my work reflects both my love of nature and my fascination with the transformative impact of new and emerging technology.
As a leader and community organizer, my passion is building those communal and physical environments that lead to truly innovative, interdisciplinary work -- through collaborative installations, makerspaces, exhibitions and events, life-long learning opportunities, technological infrastructure, and knowledge sharing through research, papers and presentations.
