festival art is usually designed specifically for music or art events, and is optimized for fun -- visually interesting, interactive, and temporary. Festivals and parties are a great channel for experimenting with larger installations. My own interest in installation work started with large-scale decorations at parties. We would throw arts fundraisers, and create decorative art specifically for the event. Soon thereafter I discovered arts festivals such as Burning Man, which became a a key impetus for some of my larger projects.
